Offered by CoVa Karate
4Â Free Martial Art Classes for Great Neck residents for Regular classes at Cova Facility.
Many schools teach a wide range of age groups and to further complicate it they teach a variety of different disciplines, this makes it difficult to find a school that focuses on the essence of martial arts. Â
Â
Cova karate, we focus on teaching only adults. We specialize in teaching adults 16+ years or older.
What we teach:Â
Â
Karate:
Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate, a system designed for the Royal body guards of the Okinawan Courts, and is the foundation of many other martial arts such as Tae Kwon do.  Our focus is to develop your self-defense skills, by developing new muscle memory, to reprogram your instinctive reflexes using tried and true methods from Okinawa. While you learn the hand movements, the stances are designed to strengthen your legs and posture.
Â
Kobudo:
The Ancient art, this category contains our weapons, we don’t teach modern gymnastic weapons, that are frequently found in most schools today. We teach our students how to use a variety of weapons as they were intended to be used.
Our Instructors:
Our director, Sean Schroeder has been studying Martial arts since the early 1980’s, he would regularly bike from Cox Highschool to Newtown Road to train 3 days per week at OBI Karate School under Kyoshi Noel Smith. Sean received his 6th degree black belt in 2023
Assistant instructors Kyoshi David Colaizzi is a 7th Degree black belt from Kyoshi Noel Smith, a direct student of Nakazato Sensei from the mid 1960s. Â
