Great Neck Karate & Martial Arts Program – Teens and Adults
Special Offer: 4 Free Martial Arts Classes for Great Neck residents at our Cova Karate facility.
Unlike many schools that try to cover every age group and style, Cova Karate focuses only on adults (16+). This means you’ll train in a mature, disciplined environment with instructors who specialize in adult learning and practical martial arts.
Karate – Okinawan Shorin-ryu
The foundation of many modern arts like Taekwondo, Shorin-ryu was originally designed for the royal bodyguards of Okinawa. Our training builds real-world self-defense by retraining your reflexes and developing muscle memory through proven methods. Hand techniques sharpen awareness, while stances strengthen legs, posture, and stability.
Kobudo – Traditional Weapons
We teach authentic Okinawan weapons—not flashy gymnastics props. You’ll train with traditional weapons such as the Bo staff, learning how they were truly intended to be used.
Sean Schroeder, Director – Training since the early 1980s, Sean earned his 6th-degree black belt in 2023. As a teenager, he biked from Cox High School to OBI Karate three days a week to study under Kyoshi Noel Smith.
Kyoshi David Colaizzi, Assistant Instructor – A 7th-degree black belt, Kyoshi Colaizzi trained directly under Kyoshi Noel Smith, who was himself a student of Okinawan master Nakazato Sensei since the 1960s.
