Virginia Beach Karate & Martial Arts

Karate, originally known as Tode or Uchinate (Chinese hand) was taught for the express purpose of self-protection.  It was not until later in history, after the Japanese converted its intent to one of self-perfection, in other words they created Karate-do, the karate way.

CoVa Karate focuses on what can be described as Karate-Jutsu or Kobudo-Jutsu, the old way of combat.

The study of Karate-Jutsu, is about strengthening and conditioning your body, and training your body to react instinctively to physical acts of violence.  this level of training can not be learned through the modern “traditional” method common at most schools.

In recent years many have gravitated away from Karate, mainly due to schools putting too much focus on Kata and not enough on one-on-one drills, pressure testing concepts and ideas.

This has produced Karateka (karate students) learning to perform Kata as if in a ballet. Even worst, as Karate is intended to deal with an attack, meaning you have to fight, many of these karate students due to their dancing kata, have no real kata in their Kumite.

Our objective is simple, apply the old ways of Karate to develop kata with fight in it, and then kumite with Kata, it is a reciprocal relationship between Kata and Kumite.

In essence, if you are interested in developing your body while learning the skills of self defense, our curriculum is designed for this.  Come and check us out
